October 21, 2019

President Dave called everyone to come to order after we had been greeted at the door by Linda Pitter who had us all putt two golf balls which qualified us to put our name into a draw.

Stickley led us in the singing of Oh Canada, Brian Larson won the 50/50 draw, after two misfires, and our President won the Foundation draw.  Linda, as Sgt of Arms, awarded two small gifts to Henry for winning the putting draw, and then had three volunteers spin the Rotary Wheel resulting in Elias paying a $5.00 fine, Derryl receiving a $4.00 credit, and Sheila receiving a $2.00 fine.

Our Exchange Program

Balint was absent from the meeting because he was in Ontario having a great visit to the East with his third host family.

Our Membership Program

Gerry announced that our membership is sitting at 38 and he called on every single one of us to bring in one new member and promised a Rewards Program will be introduced next week.

We did have one potential new member visiting that day and a guest, Ginan, who exchange Rotary Club flags with President Dave and spoke a few words.

Craft Talk: Eunice Akinnuoye

Eunice Akinnuoye is one of our newer members sponsored in Rotary by Gerry Darichuk.  She made the decision to become a Rotarian and join our club because she witnessed a common interest: that of taking care of others.

Eunice followed her husband to Canada and experienced the fear that comes with moving to a new country where everything is strange, including the food.  They both grew to love the country and Canadians, who Eunice describes as good people. But when her husband passed away, Eunice had to be brave once more as she faced the challenge of raising five children on her own, one of whom she sadly lost when he was only 23.

Eunice turned to her love of cooking as a means of employment and has been a successful mom (editor’s interpretation) extending her kindness, since 1998, to taking care of children who aren’t able to get the parental support they need.  To date, more than 100 kids have received help from Eunice.

We have the opportunity to, in turn, help Eunice help others.  Her Rotary goals are to help those in need, to teach cooking, to build a connection in the community, and partner with others to reach those goals.

Next Meeting

Be sure to attend our next meeting on October 28th to ensure a quorum for our Annual Meetings and to contribute to our Strategic Plan update.
