The Rotary foundation

Thanks to Derryl for providing these notes.

President Brian called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM  and commenced with the singing of O’Canada and blessing of the meal.

Pictures of the weekend festivities sponsored by the Stettler Rotary Club for the inbound student exchange group were cycled on the screen during lunch time. Robb confirmed it was a great weekend.

The 50/50 draw of $22 was won by Richard Edwards.

Sgt at Arms, Ron S. collected fines for no pins and badges, no show or no shift for the Kettles, no food bank donation to date. Happy bucks - Gerry thanked Turgay for his attendance at the Consulars gathering and possibly recruiting new member(s); Jim M, happy for son’s first book who has visited 154 countries and will continue in January to 49 more countries to complete the list; Bud Watson for Nick’s great Dine Around; and Robb for the great fun and experience at the Stettler Rotarian weekend for exchange students.

Gary B.announce that he has received notice that our Club has been successful for another Casino fund raiser in mid year 2019. Thanks to Gary for all his work in our biggest fund raiser.

Next week's meeting is the last chance for your donations to the Food Bank which will be matched with Club’s funds.

Richard E. report on Dine Around fund raiser - only one place left in January at Brian L.  Also, for those who have not yet paid for their Dine Around experience is encouraged to make their contribution to Richard.

Cliff is still looking for volunteers to man the Salvation Army Kettles at North Hill Mall. Shifts are from 11:00am - 2:00pm and 2:00pm - 5:00pm. Call Cliff at 403-617-9402.

The guest Speaker was Roy Boettger, a long term Rotarian with the Downtown Club who presented an excellent discussion on the subject of Planned Giving for the Future and specifically related it to the Calgary Rotary Clubs Foundation. He divides one’s Financials into three groups; Financial Independence, Family Legacy and Social Capital. After conservatively assessing your comfort for Financial Independence and Family legacy is there Social Capital remaining that you would like to consider for investment?  If so, there are a number of paths forward that could meet your objectives.
More information is available through Jeff as our Club representative for the CRCF.

The Meeting was adjourned at 1:35.

Here's a note from Brian regarding today's meeting:

Dear Gil Donkersgoed,

Good afternoon Rotarians.

A short note regarding our regular Club Meeting that is coming up on Monday December 18th.

The agenda will include a few short announcements, but rather than a Program Speaker there will be time provided for casual round-table conversation and fellowship.  Of course, you may wish to invite family or friends.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

President Brian

A further note from our president:

Hi again, an update regarding our Club meeting on Monday Dec 18th.

Ron Stickley has arranged for two representatives from Louise Dean School to provide a short presentation at our Club meeting.

As you know, RCCN has been a long-time supporter of LDS both in terms of capital renovations such as the nursery and toddler rooms, as well as providing post-secondary scholarships to LDS graduates.  We can be proud of those achievements.

If you missed your opportunity to provide a box of infant or toddler size pampers at our Club Pub Night on Dec 13th, you now have an opportunity to bring a box to the Club meeting on Monday.  Following the meeting, those interested Rotarians and guests will have an opportunity to visit and tour LDS.

BTW, we've asked the hotel to provide extra seating to accommodate your guests.

Thanks, and best of the Season to all.

Ok.  We work a lot.  But we have fun too.  Want proof?  I can provide that.
